How These Ratings Are Calculated
The Pure Points Margin model builds every rating from final scores alone. A team's offensive rating is the points it scored, adjusted for how good the defenses it faced were. Its defensive rating is the points it allowed, adjusted for how good the offenses it faced were. The model keeps refining every team's ratings against the latest ratings of its opponents until they settle, so a win over a strong team counts for more than a win over a weak one.
Net is adjusted offense minus adjusted defense, and higher is better. For defense, lower is better. SOS is the average Net rating of the opponents a team has played: a positive SOS means a tougher-than-average schedule, a negative SOS an easier one.
